Furnas – the Valley of geysers

From the hotel, we will head to the Valley of Geysers.

Your first stop will be at the observation deck, where you can admire a beautiful view of the north coast.

Then, you will have the opportunity to visit the factory of the only tea plantations in Europe, where you will taste green and black tea and one of the best homemade ice creams on the island. Here you will be able to see the whole process of tea production – from its picking to the packaging process.

The next stop will be at the site, where you can view the entire Furnas Valley. A visit to one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Europe, Terra Nostra, will also be an unforgettable moment of this tour (admission not included). There are trees and plants from all over the world, and you will have the opportunity to swim in the hot thermal pool (+38º). Before stopping for lunch, you can watch the pots with your lunch being taken out of the ground where it is cooked in the volcanic heat for about 5-6 hours (admission included).

Then, lunch will be served at a local restaurant (not included). ‘Cozido’ is a variety of meats, sausages, and vegetables that have been cooking in their juices in the volcanic heat. If you do not eat meat, please let us know in advance. After lunch, the tour continues to the hot springs, where we will see over 23 springs located at different levels of the Earth. The variety of hot springs is fascinating: some are muddy, some are crystal clear, others are sulfur, and some we will even taste.

The return trip goes through the southern coast, through the village of Vila Franca, which was the first capital. We’ll return to Ponta Delgado around 5:30 PM.
